Here we go again with the dino versus synthetic. There will be no definitive answers only results from us, the user of our favorite oil.. That said--
I use Delvav 1 synthetic diesel oil from Mobil. I use it in my Kubota 4310GST. I have used it since 50 hours so far now at 260 with no problems. I use it because the synthetics are SUPPOSED to have less thermal degradation, higher lubricity, the viscocity index is higher , meaning it should stick to surfaces better with less draindown,the detergent package is supposed to be better. I could go on but I believe we all get my drift. Whether it actually is better I don't know. I do believe that we cannot kill our machines will kindness. I hope in the event of the motor running hot or something that the SUPPOSEDLY superior oil will provide some extra level of protection.
This is only my opinion and not intended to get anyone offende.
Where is Mark C. , he will surely give a very informed opinion.

I just found that Chevron just released anew tractor fluid called Synthetic all weather HTF that lists it as replacing Super UDT. It is a stretch to call it synthetic as it uses Group lll base oils like Castrol Syntech. These base oils are better than the oils normally used but still not as good as pure synthetics. Pardon the runon but at least we have a viable choice. Havent found the price yet. The Super UDT isnt synthetic either according to the label on my 5 gallon can. Just a little info for those in need.

Kenny, What manufacturer doesnt recommend synthetics for breakin, I have never seen that only heard the rumors.

Bob, Sounds like I use my tractor exactly as you use yours. You really should look at the larger tractors. I love my 4310 but you really need to go up in size. You will be happier and the tractor wont be worked to death. Good luck and Happy Tractoring.

THis is a common question. However there is absolutely no evidence to indicate that you should not use synthetics in new equipment. Many people dont like to, such as Mark whose opinion I hold in high esteem. But according to Mobil the oil reduces friction, but does not eliminate it. Also stated was that today's new engines are built differently than older ones and the rings dont have to "seat" in the manner they used to. You , at least in my Kubota manual are asked to use baby your tractor a little in the first 50 hours, that should provide enough runin on synthetic or otherwise. Just my 2 cents

Youre absolutely on the right track. I use Mobil Delvac 1 5-40 and there is a noticably reduced time for oil pressue to build up over heavier oils. You havent started a debate as far as I am concerned although others dont see the need for the added expense. Where is Mark, I know he will help out on this one.

oops let me correct my previous post. The #1 diesel has less viscosity and produces lower power than #2. I obviously mispoke myself in stating the #2 is thinner and provides less power. Sorry bout that

I too went thru the selection process.I read that the design and manufactoring partner for Deere was to change. I was afraid that the engineering problems would surface so I chose a Kubota L4310 GST. It is a great machine and is apparently bulletproof. Kubota makes their own machines and from reading the posts if there are problems you very rarely hear of them .. Try them all and what I did was go with the machine with the best KNOWN service record. Check it out!

The book that came with my L4310 Kubota advised not to run rpm's above that needed to do the job. I would suppose that meant no lugging. Just use common sense, if the weeds are small don't use wide open throttle. Use enough rpm to do the job and not lose more that 1-200 rpm on the heavier spots. Sounds as though you already have it figured out.

Jonathon you have a good point about the PTO clutch type. I have to admit that i still have my doubts about not having a dual stage clutch. But still I remember what Fiat , who i believe now owns New Holland did to Allis heavy equipment. It was not a pretty picture. Please correct me if I am wrong and I hope for your sake I am. I still like to know who made my stuff and who will be makeing it. Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill. Just another opinion. Enjoy your tractor I sure do mine!!!

The confusions continues and I am about to buy a bush hog and dont know what ot do. I have used tractors and bush hogs all my life and never seen one from the factory with the chain. If any has written info from the factory and not advise from so called experts please post same. Both sides seems to provide good arguments. But written instructions from a mfgr. would the most reliable info.

Sounds like you have plenty of potential work to do. My guess is at least 35 hp and 4wd. I bought a L4310 GST, Mark would tell you to go Hydro and I"m not sure he doesn't have a valid point. I bought ORANGE but they arent for everyone. Buy as much HP as you can afford. Also important is to take your time try out all that interest youand make sure you have a reputable dealer.

this this is the reposting of previous message witha better subject headiing. i have in my mind determined that the kubota 4310 DT is the best value and most powerful in the compact range? please present arguments to help me finally decide. also anyone use DELVAC 1 OR DELO 400 SYNTHETIC IN THEIR TRACTOR. Also read somewhere i think that the specs for japanese diesels engine oil is different than the usual ch-4 or cg-4. anyone out there with more info please do.<br>i would appreciate any and all views and info<br>many thanks

can anyone rate the kubota l4310 dt. after alot of searching and testing it seems like a great machine for the money. most other compacts do not offer 37.5 pto hp. any info would be appreciated. also anyone using delvac 1 or delo 400 synthetic oil in their machines? i also heard that japanese diesels require an oil with a rating that is not exactly ch-4 or whatever, there seems to be some confusion on that one, at least for me.<br> thanks
